The Martial Artist Code of Behavior
A GUIDE TO MARTIAL ARTIST ETIQUETTE FOR STUDENT OF JANGMOOKIDO 

    As a student of Korean Martial Arts, you will hear the term "etiquette" frequently. Etiquette or Ye Ui refers to a special code of behavior for practitioners of  traditional style martial arts. The formal inclusion of etiquette in practices of the martial arts in Korea dates back many centuries. High etiquette become from ancient elite warriors in the battlefield, in order to survive. Etiquette are not only respectful behavior, but  also such things high personal values, loyalty, discipline, courage and conscience - certainly a tall order for people of any land and time.

  The Five Principles of the Ancients.
 
           1. Virtue
         2.  Trust
         3.  Intelligence
         4.  Courage
         5.   Discipline

These principles are the foundation of traditional martial arts etiquette. The substance which makes them all happen is RESPECT. Behaviors that are motivated by respect are the building block of martial art etiquette.
BOWING  

Many World cultures use bowing as a common way to show respect and for courtesy sake. The martial arts custom of  bowing is a simple and wonderfull uncomplicered  gesture of respect. It is nothing more than that. It is no mysterious religious connections, nor does it translate into idolatry. It is practiced solely to express one’s respect. As a student  of traditional martial arts, you will bow frequently. It is important to know when and how to bow.
  • Bow to the flags,  National Flag ( Guk Ki ) and Association Flag ( Won Ki ). This bow is executed by bringing the right fist over the heart, and bow your waist to 45°. 
  • Bowing without the weapon. Block your lower center with your straigh left hand, put your right hand in front of your eyes and bow your waist 45°.           ( Saying "Moo Ki )
  • Bowing with the Bhong, in Get ready stance ( Chun Bi ). Hold the Bhong with your right hand, 45° front from your right body side. Bringing the left fist, 90° of your body center, against the bhong and bow your waist to 45°.                                                      ( Saying "Moo Ki" )  
DOJANG RULES AND REGULATIONS

SHOW FORMAL RESPECT TO YOUR DOJANG
  • Bow to the flags and your  instructors  when entering and leaving the school.
  • Bow before entering and leaving the practice area.
  • Help keep it clean and orderly in the dojang

GIVE PROPER RESPECT TO YOURSELF
  • Concentrate on your training!
  • Do not try to practice a technique or form that you have not been taught
  • Do not touch weapons or other equipment before and after your training.
  • Be on time for your training, within your do-bok.

RESPECT YOUR DO-BOK
  • Do-bok is the Korean word for martial arts uniform. Come to class with a complete and presentable do-bok. This means that the uniform should be clean, your body also and complete do-bok, it should include underwear, pants, jacket  and a belt.

RESPECT  IN YOUR TRAINING
  • Bow to the flags before and after your training
  • Bow to your instructors before and after your training
  • Bow when beginning or ending Hyung practice
  • Bow to your partners before and after Technique practice
  • Bow to your partners before and after Dae Ryun practice
  • Bow to cutting object  before and after Bägi practice
  • Bow to the flags before and after Ki Bub practice
